How to Identify a Genuine HP Original HP45 Empty Cartridge

MufengTech HP45 Recycling · 2026-11-01

We only buy genuine HP original HP45 (51645A) cartridges, so the most useful skill for a collector is sorting them before shipping. These checks work without special tools.

1. Check the label and part number

Original cartridges carry the 51645A part number and a printed date code. Third-party labels, stickers covering the original label, or labels with another brand name are a strong sign of a compatible or remanufactured cartridge.

2. Look for refill holes and plugs

A cartridge that has been refilled before often has a drilled hole, a rubber or plastic plug, or glue marks on the top. These cartridges are not accepted, even if the shell was originally made by HP.

3. Inspect the nozzle plate and contacts

The gold contact strip and the nozzle plate should be intact — no deep scratches, corrosion or missing pads. Dried ink is normal and usually cleans off; physical damage does not.

4. Feel the shell

Original shells have a consistent finish and tight seams. Cracks, warping or loose parts make a cartridge unsuitable for remanufacturing.

5. When in doubt, send photos

Take clear photos of the top, the label side and the nozzle area and send them to us on WhatsApp. We tell you which cartridges qualify before you ship — so you do not pay freight for cartridges that cannot be accepted (and cannot be returned).
